IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample Essay 2 - Technology Band 7

Title: As technology becomes an integral part of our daily lives. It is now almost impossible to live without technology. To what extent do you agree with this statement?

There is no doubt it is difficult to live without technology nowadays, as it's a daily part of our lives whether we love it or loathe it. Technology is an integral part of our daily society, day-to-day activities, weekly chores and regular activities like socialising nowadays. This essay will discuss this interesting question in further detail before coming to a conclusion.

Nowadays, it is absolutely impossible to ignore technology. You need to work with it, you need it to communicate, you need it to pay your bills and it has become a fast, convenient and effective way to save your time for your day-to-day activities. For example, we can even order our supermarket shopping online, clothes, shoes, book lessons, study online and work completely online. Some people manage a business online without even leaving their home or going to an office.

Technology is a good thing, but like everything it has some major drawbacks. New crimes have come about through the introduction of technology. For example - on the world's most popular social networking site - Facebook - some scammers are making fake profiles to emulate a real authentic profile to scam money from our friends or family by impersonating someone. On the other hand, online trolls and bullies are rampant impersonating people, bullying disabled people and targeting celebrities to hide behind the computer. We call these people keyboard warriors.

There are some people who still do not use technology and do not need it. For example, some people do not have a social media account, as they say socialising is for face-to-face and should not be done online. They try to keep their online footprint to a minimum. Other downsides is that all sorts of information is put online and this can be dangerous, as people can know so much about you. This is a scary thought, as sometimes we cannot control this and we must be far more aware of the negative aspects of technology.

In conclusion - I wholeheartedly agree that it is impossible to live without technology, but some people do live without it too. Some of us grew up without a computer and we managed fine too. However, nowadays it is indeed very difficult to avoid technology altogether.
