Model Answers:

How are you?

I’m fine, thank you

I’m good, thank you.

Can I see your ID please?

Sure, here you are.

Of course, here you go.

Do you come from a big or small family?

I come from quite a big Saudi family. My family has 10 nuclear members and about 30 extended family members. My father is a doctor and my mother is a famous journalist in our country. They met whilst studying abroad in the US. I am the youngest out of my siblings, which consists of 5 brothers and 5 sisters. My extended family and my family get together every Friday for dinner at our house.

Can you tell me about your city or town?

It would be my pleasure to tell you about my hometown. Well, actually I’d like to talk about my city, which is Riyadh. I’m from a village, but there is not much to describe about the village, as it’s very small. There are just some animals and houses. In my city, Riyadh there are many skyscrapers, tall buildings, hospitals, schools and things to do. You can eat in many different restaurants and go shopping. There are also parks, but there is no beach. If you want to visit the beach – you can visit Jeddah.

How long have you been learning English for?

I’ve been learning English, since I was three years old. I’ve had a teacher come to home to teach me English since three years old. I also went to a very good university in Riyadh where we had many foreign teachers working from the UK and USA.

Part 2:

Cue Card:

Part 2: Tell me about the climate in your country:

– What is the perfect climate – Why you like or don't like your climate – Why weather is something people always talk about – What kind of climate do people in your country prefer

The climate in my country is extremely hot, dry and arid. We don't have the distinct four seasons like in a city like New York for example. It rarely snows or rains in Riyadh. In fact - in the Middle East if it rains people often come out to see it, as it's so strange or rare for them. I like my climate, as I don't like when it's too cold or chilly. I don't like it during the summer, as it's far too hot to go outside.

In my opinion, it's something people can use to start up a conversation easily. In my country - some people prefer the weather in Europe, so we often travel to Europe during the summer where it's a bit cooler. London summers or even winters are favoured by my friends and family, as it's nice and refreshing for them to experience a different type of climate. London is perfect, as it can snow sometimes, but it's not as cold as Russia or Canada for instance.

Part 3:

Is technology an important tool nowadays?

Technology is an integral part of our daily lives. I use my smartphone every day to communicate with friends and family. Study online, receive important emails and complete any correspondence that I may have for my work, studies and personal life.

What kind of technology is most common in your country?

In my country, things like Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are all popular technological apps. Smartphones are widely adopted and used by almost everyone from all walks of life.

Do people like to buy things online in your country?

People love to buy things online in Saudi Arabia just like in other countries. Technology is widely adopted here, but one thing that is lagging behind is online banking, which is still not as common here as other countries.
